Alright, buckle up ya'll, because you are about to get the real, unabridged (sorta) version of how Lake and Schye met, fell in love, and decided to get MARRIED!
A little over two years ago, Schye decided to quit her job in Colorado. It is important to note (for cuteness purposes) that Schye was going to quit her job about two months earlier, but felt a strong force telling her to wait (this becomes relevant later).
Anyway, right around the time Schye quit her job, a friend of hers reached out and wanted to know what she was up to in life. Schye let her know she just quit her job and was taking a couple of weeks off before she started her new job. At this point, her friend suggested she take a trip down to Florida because her boyfriend had a boat. Schye agreed, appreciating the vacation suggestion and eager to relax for a few days. Little did Schye know her friend had asked her boyfriend (shout out to Cody Coleman) to find a man for Schye to hang out with so she wouldn't feel like a third wheel. Well, Cody decided to ask a friend of his (that he had only known for a few weeks -- see I told you it was relevant) to come hang out with him and a couple of girls from Colorado for a few days. As you probably guessed, Cody's friend was Lake.
The first time Lake and Schye interacted, they did not pay much attention to each other. Schye was very tired and hungry after traveling, and Lake was occupied watching his son, Rhett, as he played with some rocks in the sand. After dinner, Lake went home and Schye went with her friend, excited to get some sleep and to head out sailing the next day.
Schye, her friend, and Cody were about to set sail when Lake walked up to the boat. Schye remembers this being the first moment she started to like Lake. As Lake approached the boat, Schye could see he was wearing the sunglasses she left by his truck the night before. They were leopard print and very big, so the whole spectacle made her laugh, and she thought to herself -- how adorable.
That evening, after sailing, Schye was very interested in the handsome stranger who saved her glasses, but Lake was still not too sure about Schye. After getting back home to Cody's house, everyone decided to watch a movie. Schye wanted to get more comfortable, so she decided to sneak away and slip into her PJs, which were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed. Needless to say everyone laughed when they saw her, but Lake thought Schye looked cute and genuine (something he revealed later as being the moment he started to like her).
After another very fun day of boating, the group went to a Mexican restaurant to unwind. At one point, Lake and Schye were alone at the table and started talking. Schye revealed she was exhausted from the weekend and that she much prefers going to the gym, doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and not partying. Lake laughed and revealed those were his favorite things to do, every day! (Nacho Libre reference for those who didn't get it.)
Finally, the night before Schye was going to leave Florida (maybe forever), her friend told Schye she had a date. Schye turned to her friend (hopeful) wondering what she meant. "Lake is going to take you out. He says he will come get you around 6:00," she said. Schye was elated, but also really nervous. She kept it cool though.
Needless to say, Lake and Schye went on a date and the rest is history!
P.S. Lake did not ask for Schye's number on this date because her phone was destroyed in the ocean (also shout out to Cody Coleman), so Schye left for Colorado thinking she would never see or talk to Lake again! She told her family she met the love of her life on vacation, but did not expect it to go anywhere. Luckily, Lake gave his number to Schye's friend who passed it on. Even luckier, Schye's sister Sierra convinced her that no, it wasn't weird to text that dude she met on vacation. Anyway, Schye and Lake have spoken everyday since Schye texted Lake telling him he "made such an incredible impact on [her] in one weekend, so thank you."
