Why are we going to Franklin, MO for your wedding?
Schye's grandparents, Dale & Patricia Gilman, purchased land in Franklin, Missouri (aka "Foxfire" or "the Farm") and built a bunkhouse, workshop and lake (Lake Patricia) as a safe haven for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on, "just in case." Schye and the rest of the Gilman clan have spent many summers at the farm: fishing, ATVing, shooting guns, archery, catching fireflies and shooting off fireworks. Schye always felt Foxfire would be a great place to be married someday. It has always been a source of peace, and means a lot to her and her family.
When should I show up?
If you are not in the wedding party, please arrive sometime between 4:30 PM to 4:45 PM. The ceremony starts at 5:00 PM, so we hope to have all guests seated by 4:55 PM.
What's the dresscode?
Since the wedding is outside and the venue is called "the Farm", we are not implementing a dress code. However, we recommend you do not wear high heels or nice shoes as you could find yourself walking through mud, rocks and grass. Finally, there are mosquitos in Missouri, so please make sure you bring bug spray, though we will have a table with different types of bug repellent.
What should I know before making plans to attend?
Foxfire is about 15 minutes from Boonville, MO, which is the closest big town. Boonville Heritage Days is the same weekend, so feel free to come early and visit the Heritage Days festival. There are several other towns nearby including Arrowrock, Columbia, Glasgow, Fayette etc. Also, cell service is 'iffy' while at Foxfire, but that said, we did just get high speed Wi-Fi! Overall, Foxfire is a wonderful place to go to RELAX and HAVE FUN! We cannot wait to share our ancestral home with you and all it has to offer!
Is your wedding indoors or outdoors?
The wedding will be outdoors. While there is a house on the property, it will only be open to guests for purposes of using the restrooms. If you have any interest in touring Foxfire's museum, please ask one of the Gilmans for permission and assistance. Also, Missouri is hot in the summer. The weather ranges from 60-90 degrees. It can be hot during the day and cold at night, so please dress accordingly.
Wait, did you say museum?
Yes! Dale Gilman (Schye's paternal grandfather) spent many years collecting items from the past including old cameras, toys, phones, books, movies, cigarettes and more. We highly recommend you take advantage of the opportunity to tour the small museum in the bunkhouse. Please ask a member of the Gilman family beforehand. This place means a lot to us and we want to make sure things are taken care of and given the utmost respect.
